Polymers are often characterized as being thermoplastic or thermoset. A thermoplastic polymer will soften as it is heated (i.e., thermal treatment leads to plastic ow). This behavior has important implications about processing such polymers. Thermoplastic polymers can usually be molded and are typically used as injection molding resins.
