Controlled Substances In addition to the standards for therapeutic management listed above, NPs have other accountabilities when prescribing and dispensing controlled substances. Controlled substances are medications that are restricted by the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act because they present a high risk of misuse, addiction and diversion.
