PRELIMINARY PROGRAM ELEVENTH INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM ON CONTACT ANGLE, WETTABILITY AND ADHESION Stevens Institute of Technology, Hoboken, New Jersey, June 13-15, 2018 SYMPOSIUM HISTORY ANDMOTIVIATIONIn his opening remarks at the first symposium in this seriesProfessor Robert Good pointed out that Galileo in the 17thcentury was quite likely the first investigator to observe contactangle behavior with his experiment of floating a thin gold leafon top of a water surface. Since that time contact anglemeasurements have found wide application as a method fordetermining the energetics of surfaces. This, in turn, has aprofound effect on the wettability and adhesion of liquids andcoatings to surfaces. This symposium will be concerned with both the fundamentaland applied aspects of contact angle measurements. Issuessuch as the applicability and validity of various measurementtechniques and the proper theoretical framework for theanalysis of contact angle data will be of prime addition, a host of applications of the contact angle techniquewill be explored including but not limited to: wettability ofpowders, fibers, wood products, paper, polymers andmonolayers.
