Cardiovascular disease (CVD) Oral (not transdermal) oestrogen is associated with a small increased risk of stroke. In women <60 years the risk is very low. HRT does not increase CVD if started under 60 years or risk of dying of CVD. The presence of CVD risk factors is not a contraindication to HRT if they are optimally managed.
