question for written answer P-000135/2022to the CommissionRule 138 David McAllister (PPE), Lena D pont (PPE), Jens Gieseke (PPE)Subject:Wolf management in EuropeThe protection of the wolf has contributed to a significant improvement in the population in Germany and across Europe. It is estimated that there are now 20 000 wolves in Europe, of which more than 1 000 live in Germany. The flip side of this development is dramatic conflicts with people as a result of attacks on livestock by the animals. This not only makes some sections of the rural population feel unsafe and threatened, it can also cause significant economic damage to livestock farmers. The seriousness of the situation can be seen particularly in the high number of livestock kills, which now far exceeds the food requirements of wolves. And many farmers and livestock owners are horrified by the harrowing sight of the animals killed.
