The term Process Piping generally refers to the system of pipes that transport fluids ( fuels, chemicals, industrial gases, etc.) around an industrial facility involved in the manufacture of products or in the generation of power. It also is used to describe utility Piping systems ( , air, steam, water, compressed air, fuels etc.) that are used in, or in support of the industrial Process .
1.5. PIPING DIMENSIONAL STANDARDS Pipe sizes are documented by a number of standards, including API 5L, ANSI/ASME B36.10M in the US, and BS 1600 and BS 1387 in the United Kingdom. Typically, the pipe wall thickness is the controlled variable, and the Inside Diameter (I.D.) is allowed to vary.
