He had realised many years ago that being a valued member of a community was the secret to a happy life. As such, during the summer Mr X would volunteer to run the canteen at his local cricket club; while in the winter he performed a similar service for his daughter s netball team. His community service extended beyond sporting clubs; Mr X also volunteered as a weekend tour guide at a local museum, and he occasionally assisted with the bookkeeping at his local Surf Life Saving Club. But recently, Mr X had begun to notice an interesting connection between many of the clubs, sports teams, and community facilities present in his city: all seemed to have a connection with one of the three major mining companies that operated in the region.
