RELIGIOUS STUDIES CURRICULUM Topic: Refugees Strands: bible and Christian Belief; Christian Ethics and Ethical Theory; World Religions Stage of Development: Middle Childhood (MC) Rationale: This unit encourages students to explore the Christian hallmark of hospitality and how this may apply to those who seek refuge in our land. They reflect on some very early refugee stories from biblical times. While learning that Refugees are migrants, they are led to understand that not all migrants are Refugees . Students are also encouraged to consider more recent examples of refugee movements in particular parts of the world, noting the impact displacement has on people and their families, without examining in depth the political issues which face many Refugees in our own time and country. They will also begin to appreciate that Refugees and migrants together help make our nation the multi-cultural / multi-faith society that it is.
