The inexorable temporal and spatial expansion of the international data infrastructure has inevita-bly raised the question of what to do with all the extra years of data. The obvious answer is to use extra observations of the same variables for the same countries as additional cases for analysis, though other answers are possible ( , using additional years to pro-duce ever-more-robust period averages and ever-longer time lags).
