Copyright 2018 The Guilford Press3 This introductory chapter briefly reviews the evidence supporting the conclusion that a second attention disorder exists, known as Sluggish Cognitive Tempo (SCT), which is distinct from, yet overlaps with, ADHD. The review is adapted from my ear-lier chapter on this topic ( Barkley , 2015a) but updated with the numerous research studies and a meta-analysis that were published thereafter. The abbreviation SCT has been in use since the term was first coined in the 1980s, based on research studying dimensions of attention problems in children with ADHD.
