1 SELF-KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING Without SELF-KNOWLEDGE , without UNDERSTANDING the workings and functions of our being, we cannot be free. That is why in all ancient teachings the first demand at the beginning of the way to liberation was: Know Thyself. Gurdjieff Know Thyself The journey of spiritual development and self -realization begins with self -study. self -study leads to SELF-KNOWLEDGE and eventually to an UNDERSTANDING of the meaning and purpose of existence. The words of Socrates and many others Know thyself are a signpost for all those who seek true knowledge and being: Gnothi Seauton Know Thyself.
