Ships at Vendovi Anchorage Charles Davis May 3, 2012 People have asked me about the two tankers at anchor in Samish Bay, as they have been there more than a few days and are nearly fully loaded. Tankers that anchor in what is officially called the " Vendovi Anchorage " area usually unload about half of their loads at the Cherry Point/Ferndale refineries, sit at anchor for a few days until the crude oil they discharged is used by the refineries and storage tank capacity is again available, go back to the refineries and discharge the balance of their loads, and then go on their way for another load somewhere to take somewhere, maybe to never come back to Puget Sound.
