These include: disruption to markets from unconventional competitors; intensifying competition for talent; accelerating pace of change; complexity and uncertainty; and a rapid transition from the knowledge economy to the creative economy (Hamel, 2012). Corporate performance has declined, as measured by Return on Assets or Return on Invested Capital. The Return on Assets of US firms has dropped 75% since 1965 ( ). The average life expectancy of Fortune 500 companies has fallen from 75 to 15 years in the last 50 years.
