Course Code: 1123 Building Construction Awareness Hours: 16. *Cost: $5 Prereqs: n/a Description: Building construction methods and materials have an enormous impact on fire behavior and firefighter safety. To extinguish a fire in a building effectively and safely, one must have a fundamental working knowledge in these areas. In this awareness level course, you will learn about various types of building construction, the importance of the fire resistance for structural support elements, and the risks associated with performing fire-suppression activities inside and around buildings involved in fire. This course is meant to try and bridge between what the Firefighter and Fire Officer learns in his or her entry level training to make them more aware and educated decision-makers in their organization both on and off the fireground.
