In reply I wrote: I use both meter and metre . I use meter when I refer to any device that measures something (such as gas meter , parking meter , speedometer, and voltmeter) or to a particular measurement (such as diameter and perimeter). I use metre when I refer to a unit of distance (such as in micrometre, millimetre, metre , and kilometre).
