Twenty-three states had jobless rate decreases from a year earlier, 2 states had increases, and 25 states and the District had little or no change. The national UNEMPLOYMENT rate was unchanged from OCTOBER at percent but was percentage point lower than in November 2016. Nonfarm payroll EMPLOYMENT increased in 6 states in November 2017 , decreased in 2 states , and was essentially unchanged in 42 states and the District of Columbia.
- 2 - Eighteen states had unemployment rate changes from October 2017, all of which were decreases. The largest decline occurred in New Mexico (-1.4 percentage points).
