In Proceedings of the Fifth International Symposium onAviation Psychology (Volume 2, pp. 646-651). Columbus: Ohio State authors define SA in human/machine systems as conscious awareness of actions within two mutuallyembedded four-dimensional envelopes. The inner envelope is the unaided sensory space of the humanoperator, the outer envelope being information contained within the region of time and space presented tothe operator via remote sensing. The envelopes are mutually embedded in that the unaided sensory spaceis physically part of the larger envelope, while the aided sensory space can convey information only viadisplays inside the smaller sensory , C.
