When I say some-thing, that s the way it s going to be. I m quiet about it, but I m firm. Once we talk about the guidelines and they understand them, then every single time someone deviates, I have them Take a Break or another consequence we ve talked about. This relies on my noticing, because a lot of times I can correct a few papers and still notice everything. The kids know that, and it helps them feel safe; they know that I m going to see them and they re going to have to sit out or do something to fix their mistakes. I think it relies on relationship, too, because they know I like them and have their best interests at heart.
