It provides guidance for Teaching that focuses on explicit instruction of Comprehension strategies to promote students' Comprehension and memory of what they have read. The focus is on metacognitive Comprehension instruction through which Comprehension strategies are taught in conjunction with other knowledge, skills and strategies related to decoding and word recognition (Chapter 2), vocabulary (Chapter 3), and fluency and accuracy (Chapter 4) in order to gain meaning and understand content.
