35 The Advantages and Disadvantages of using Small Group and Pair Work in the Classroom Linda Martine Himeji Dokkyo University Abstract Having students work in Small groups and pairs has been a regular feature of classrooms in English speaking schools for a long time. However, this has not always been the case in language learning classrooms in Asia. This workshop looked at the Advantages and Disadvantages of using Small group work and pair work activities particularly for Asian students. The use of Small group work and pair work activities in this workshop illustrated how despite the perceived Disadvantages of these types of activities they can be turned into positive learning experiences. Participants were given the opportunity to give feedback in discussions held throughout the workshop. Introduction More and more non-native English speaking students seem to be electing to study at universities in English speaking countries.
