Total nonfarm payroll Employment increased by 148,000 in December, and the unemployment rate was unchanged at percent, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today. -2- In March, the number of long-term unemployed (those jobless for 27 weeks or more) was essentially unchanged at 1.3 million and accounted for 21.1 percent of the unemployed. (See table A-12.) The labor force participation rate, at 63.0 percent, was little changed over the month and has shown little movement on net over the past 12 months.
