THE SELFISH GENER ichard Dawkins is Charles Simonyi Professor for the PublicUnderstanding of Science at Oxford University. Born in Nairobiof British parents, he was educated at Oxford and did hisdoctorate under the Nobel-prizewinning ethologist Niko Tin-bergen.
