32 The Refiner s Fire ( haggadah shel Pesach ) Pesach haggadah Updated 26 February 2016 2 31 The Seder Plate On each table: , Matzah, wrapped in a cloth, enough for everyone at the table A small bowl of salt water A plate containing: , Z ro a, (a lamb shankbone - represents the lamb taken for the Passover offering) , Marror, (ground horseradish - for a bitter herb eaten twice during the Seder) , Charoset, (a mixture of apples and other fruits, nuts, cinnamon and other spices and red wine. There is no set rec-ipe. Charoset is symbolic of the mortar used to make the bricks and a remembrance of the hard work done in the Land of Egypt. , Karpas, (A green vegetable, celery or parsley are most often used.) The karpas is dipped in the salt water. The Karpas is symbolic of the hyssop used to put the blood of the lamb upon the door frames and the salt water represents the Red Sea, as well as the tears shed when Israel cried out to YAHWEH in Egypt.)
