1 Preface Introduction Radio waves, used by millions of people world-wide, do not conveniently stop at political or administrative boundaries. Without adequate planning and management, radio signals from different users and services would interfere with each other and radio could become useless as a means of communication. The United Kingdom Frequency Allocation Table (UKFAT) details the uses (referred to as 'allocations') to which various Frequency bands are put to the UK. It also shows the internationally agreed spectrum allocations of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU). The ITU divided the world into three regions. These can be seen in the map below. The United Kingdom is within Region 1.
