We are sharing with you important information about the recent significant changes to UK copyright law in regard to the showing of broadcast television within hotels, bars, restaurants and staff areas. These are important changes in the law that could affect your business. What has changed and what does this mean? The use of DVD/Blu-ray and downloads/streaming (whether film or TV programmes) by a business has been licensable under the provisions of the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988 (CDPA) for some time, however, broadcast television was exempted. Following recent changes to Section 72 of the CDPA, the showing of broadcast films and television programmes in public now requires a licence.
