HASIN, PhD Substances such as alcohol, cocaine, amphetamine,and cannabis can produce psychotic reactions inindividuals who are otherwise free of serious men-tal illness. However, persons with primary psy-chotic disorders, such as schizophrenia andbipolar disorder, who use these substances oftenpresent for treatment with signs and symptomssimilar to those whose Psychosis resulted from theuse of drugs alone.
