To increase the scope and accuracy of Ferrite Number (FN) predic-tion in Stainless Steel weld metal and re-lated dissimilar metal joints, a modification of the Welding Research Council 1988 Diagram (WRC-1 988 dia-gram) is proposed. The proposed VVRC-1992 Diagram includes a coefficient for Cu in the Ni equivalent, thereby remov-ing a tendency for the WRC-1 988 dia-gram to overestimate the FN of weld met-als when the Cu content is high. Also, the axes of the WRC-1 992 Diagram can be extended (as in the Schaeffler dia-gram) to predict dilution effects in dis-similar metal joints.
