Partial Bowel Obstruction A partial bowel blockage can occur if an area of the bowel is narrowed due to: • hardening of the bowel wall • cancer within the bowel area • outside pressure on the bowel • swelling/inflammation of the bowel When this happens, digested food cannot easily pass through the narrowed area of the bowel.
