OPIOID DISPENSING GUIDELINES
Methadone does come with its own monitoring parameters. Unlike other commonly used opioids, methadone is known to cause arrhythmias. For patient safety, it is recommended that an EKG be obtained at baseline, 4 weeks, 6 months, and yearly. At the point of dispensing, the patient should be asked if he/she has received this recently.
