Extinguishing Media: Nitric acid does not burn. Extinguish fire using extinguishing agent suitable for the surrounding fire and not contraindicated for use with nitric acid. Nitric acid is an oxidizer. Therefore, flooding quantities of water spray or fog should be used to fight fires involving nitric acid. Extinguishing Media to be Avoided:
