TA Instruments THERMAL ANALYSIS
Evolved gas analysis is typically performed by interfacing a mass spectrometer (MS) or Fourier transform infrared spectrometer (FTIR) to the exit port of the TGA furnace. Through the use of a heated transfer line, the evolved gas stream is delivered to the MS or FTIR instrument, and the compositional analysis is performed in real time.

The remaining polymer is next dissolved and cast as a film on a sodium chloride plate. The absorbance of the carbon disulfide extract and the thin film are then measured over the range of the mid-IR frequencies using an infrared specrophotometer.

homepages.rpi.eduDSC is a method of analysis that allows the user to measure glass transition, melting temperature, and crystallization temperature while a polymeric material sample is being heated or cooled. Each polymer film tested had a specific melting and recrystallization point that was reflected in the DSC as an endothermic and exothermic peak, respectively.

POLYMER STRUCTURE AND CHARACTERIZATION
www.cof.orst.eduThe subject of polymer structure and characterization is typically a second course in polymer science. As such it will be assumed that all students have completed, as a prerequisite, an introduction to polymer materials course. We choose to subdivide polymer structure into two areas. The rst area is analysis of individual polymer molecules.

Automated analysis of this image by software can produce information about the identity, number and sizes of the individual particles. Such an analysis is shown in Figure 8.
