through Castle Gap to the Pecos River, then north into New Mexico. On their second drive, in 1867, Loving was wounded by Comanches. He made it to Fort Sumner, where he died. After delivering the cattle, oving’s body was returned to exas, a tale that inspired arry curtry’s book, Lonesome Dove. 4.
