2 I look forward to serving you on the lake!Attention Boaters: New legislation means new 4 McClure Point: break-in s amongst busy weekends Luau 5th Annual Luau - June 9th, 2018. -Bring your houseboat to the island NO LATER than 12:00 pm on June 9th. Any houseboats past the cut-off time will not be allowed to moor at the island. -Back of the Boat Sale: 12:00pm - 5:00pm -Contests/Games: 1:00pm - 4:00pm -Dinner: 5:00pm - Hawaiian style catering -Entertainment: 6:30pm - 10:00pm -DJ will be provided -Please bring your own beverages -Everyone is welcome to stay overnight on the island. 6 The Dam was constructed between 1924 and 1926. It s original capacity was 281,000 acre ft. In 1926 its name was changed to Lake McClure to honor Wilbur Fiske McClure, head Engineer of the State of California. He helped develop and layout the John Muir Trail in the Sierra Mountains of California. The New Exchequer Dam was built in 1967 to increase the reservoir's storage to 1,032,000 acre ft. MID completed it in just 5 years. New Legislation from the California State Parks Division of Boating and Waterways (DBW)What s the news? How is this relevant to you? California s Boating Education Law went into effect January 1, 2018. As of January 1st, Boaters are required to carry a California Boater Card. It will be phased-in over eight years. To obtain a card, you ll have to complete the requirements of a Boating safety course. Different study environments are available. All Boating safety courses must be NASBLA approved AND be state-approved by DBW.

9 There is a current list of approved courses that can be found at You ll be relieved to know the phasing portion of this bill is quite generous. For this year, only persons 20 years of age or younger will be required to have a Boater s Card prior to operating a motorized recreational vessel on California s waterways. For more information, visit the FAQ portion of the California s Boater Card website. 10 It ll set you back $ plus whatever fees incurred from your safety you re set for life!! No renewals. Lasts a lifetime. Never expires. Still sound horrible? More restrictions. More what about safety?I know you ve witnessed bad judgement from another boater. How about people speeding through a No Wake making wakes? I m sure another boater has cut you off at some point. Yes, some people know better and they do it anyways; but what about the boaters who are Do you recall every rule you learned during Driver s education? Crisp memory of the test questions? Scored a perfect behind-the-wheel practical?!? Probably not, but you ve retained enough to know how to safely maneuver most private/public roads and highways (at least I hope you have). Similar concept here. Boating accidents are scary. This new law can help keep our beloved Lake McClure a safe and enjoyable retreat.
