1 1 The South African Professional Society on the Abuse of Children (SAPSAC) presents its 17th Annual National Child Abuse Conference 16-18 November 2016 CSIR International Convention Centre, Pretoria Conference theme: Towards multi-disciplinary expertise in handling Child Abuse CONFERENCE ANNOUNCEMENT It is indeed a pleasure to announce SAPSAC`s 17th Annual National Child Abuse Conference and to invite all professionals interested in the improved handling of Child Abuse to register for the conference. The SAPSAC conferences are aimed to educate at the multi-disciplinary level. They provide a rare learning opportunity for professionals at all levels and in all disciplines, where we may also learn from partners and colleagues in other disciplines.
2 The topics are carefully chosen to speak to all involved in handling Child Abuse . We are very excited and privileged to welcome back Prof. G rard Labuschagne as the guest presenter this year. G rard was the guest presenter at the 2006 SAPSAC conference and received raving reviews. He will attend to amongst other Paedophilia, Offender Profiling and Child Pornography. Attention will also be given to medical related issues regarding Child Abuse for the multi-disciplinary team and specifically for medical, forensic and investigative professionals. Other session will focus on giving a voice to children through intervention strategies and therapeutic approaches. Risk factors for sexual offending and gender based violence will also be addressed.
3 The lunches and teas provide the important opportunity for professional networking in answer to another of SAPSAC`s aims as reflected in the SAPSAC logo: taking hands in the best interest of the children of South Africa. 2 GUEST PRESENTER PROF. GERARD LABUSCHAGNE Prof. G rard Labuschagne was the head of the South African Police Service's Investigative Psychology Section. He held the rank of a Brigadier and was a sworn police officer. He is a qualified Clinical Psychologist, yet have undergone investigative training such as sexual offences investigation, hostage negotiation, homicide and death investigation to name a few. He currently co-owns South Africa's only sole-purpose threat assessment and management company, L&S Threat Management ( ).
4 He has an extensive list of publications in academic peer-reviewed journals and chapters in international textbooks, and presentations at international conferences.
