4 This plan was developed for our 22 member communities located in northern Worcester County and western Middlesex County. Included are specific locations where Traffic volume data was collected. These locations are chosen by the Massachusetts Highway Department (MHD), the MRPC, or by member community requests. Following are descriptions of each aspect of this handbook. Additional information such as detailed printouts and hourly volumes can be obtained by contacting the MRPC office. Also, any questions or comments regarding this report are welcome. This document will be updated in the beginning of each year. Volume Counts All volume Counts taken in the Montachusett Region were done using Automatic Traffic Recorders (ATR) and are listed by Municipality. Each count is a Factored 24-hour Average Daily Traffic (ADT) volume, or an Adjusted Average Daily Traffic (AADT) volume.
5 All MRPC volume Counts are from a minimum of 24-hours at any particular location. Some are derived from longer time spans that are the result of special requests submitted to the MRPC. Information regarding speed and classification can also be included in the ATR recording. MassHighway provides the MRPC with a list of correction factors based on the road classification, axle correction and month the count was taken. The tables of factors for 2006 are in Appendix-A. All the Counts in this report are factored; raw Counts information is available by request. The following is a description for each column in the table that follows: Road Name: Name of the road as defined by MassHighway Route Number: All route number associated with that road location as defined by MassHighway Location of count : The location where the Traffic count was placed, with respect to the nearest road, community border or state line MassHighway Station: Location ID as defined by MassHighway Functional Class: Type of roadway as defined by MassHighway, in the form of (Letter-Number): The Letters used are U for Urban City or Town, and R for Rural Town The Numbers used are.
