2 Aims and ObjectivesOverall Aim To fully exploit the potential of ICT as a teaching and learning toolShort term aims : To improve teaching, and pupils' learning in Information andCommunication technology To enable all staff and pupils to use confidently and effectively thefull range of information technologies on offer To upskill teachers in the use of ICT to improve and enhance thedelivery of the National Curriculum, National Literacy Strategy andNational Numeracy initiatives To improve pupils' standards of achievement in the core subjectsof English and Mathematics To improve teachers' and pupils' access to research materials viathe use of the InternetMedium to long term aims : To have Internet access throughout the School to aid research andcommunication skills To enable teachers and children to develop communications withthe wider world using technologies such as e-mail and videoconferencing To train teachers and other adults in the possibilities of technologyso that they can broaden the children's horizons To enable the children to use multimedia to present their workboth in School and on the Internet To create a School Website which may be accessed by childrenand parents from home To enable staff to make better use of the School 's informationsystems to support effective teaching and learning To take full advantage of the opportunities provided by the MertonLearning Net To involve the local community and lifelong learners4.
3 VisionOur children are growing up in a world where technology isdeveloping at an increasingly rapid rate. They will need skills in thefuture of which we have little concept at present. There can be nodoubt that they will need to be "lifelong learners" with the confidenceand ability to develop skills and understanding when meeting newchallenges in the workplace. They need to become fully conversantwith current technologies and be able to adapt their skills andlearning style to accommodate changes. They need to be able to usetechnology to present information, communicate and find out. Theyare also entitled to expect their learning environment in School tocontribute to the development of these skills and to have access tosuitable, up-to-date intentions of this plan are : to train teachers and pupils to use ICT confidently and effectively make cutting-edge technology available to all within the schooland local community to raise levels of achievement within the client group, equipping allthose involved with the skills and competencies necessary for Available TechnologyHardware :4 RISC PCs with printer2 Acorn A7000s with CDROM drive & printer1 Acorn A3020 with printer2 Acorn A3000s with printer3 BBC Master 128s with printer1 Apple Powerbook 1400 with printerSoftware.
4 There is a wide range of software was purchased with the requirements of theNational Curriculum and the range of topics studied in the School in :Network cabling has been installed, linking allclassrooms throughout the school6. assessment of organisationBeecholme First School provides education for 3 - 8 year olds in theracially diverse area of North East Mitcham. As a result, there are alarge number of children within the School with English as anadditional language. There is also a significant number of pupils withSpecial Educational Needs. Recent experience has shown that theuse of ICT with these pupils has improved their confidence and raisedtheir self-esteem and therefore, their levels of governing body made a major commitment to IT within theschool in 1997, when much of the School 's obsolete IT equipmentwas replaced. This generated interest in and enthusiasm for ITamong both staff and pupils.
5 The governors' finance committee hasrecently decided to make ICT a major priority for the next 4 years andhas recommended that the School budget be adjusted recent OFSTED inspection noted that :"New computers are significantly helping to raise standards acrossboth key stages." A rolling programme of upgrading and replacementof equipment should help to maintain this the 1998 End of Key Stage 1 tests our results were in line with thenational average in English and Science, slightly below average inMaths, and targets for improvement are in the process of being feel that we are ideally placed to take full advantage of theopportunities which will be provided by the Merton Learning is intended to conduct a pupil/home survey in the Spring Term1999, auditing experience and skills. All are committed to theimprovement of teaching and learning and acknowledge the role thatICT can play in members of staff (the ICT co-ordinator and the Deputy Head)are participating in the BECTa Portables for Teachers 98 teachers have reported an increase in skills and confidencesince using the portable equipment provided and now feel able tohelp colleagues extend their understanding and competence. Thevalue of the Internet as a tool for learning has also been realisedthrough this project - with possibilities having been examined andmaterials available having been scrutinised.

8 MonitoringThe project managers will be responsible for the monitoring of theproject and regular meetings will be held to discuss progress madeand areas for development. Feedback will be sought from allmembers of staff. Observations in the classrooms of ICT use will becarried out and the progress made by the children will be reviewedregularly. The project managers will provide both verbal and writtenreports to the governing body on a termly and ReviewThe ICT development plan will be reviewed annually by the projectteam in conjunction with the LEA. Progress will be evaluated andbudget decisions will be made for the following yearProject Number 1a) To update existing hardwareb) To network all classroom computersc) To make more efficient use of resourcesd) To ensure full curriculum coveragea) In the last two years we have updated all computers in Years 2 & 3and one computer in both Reception and Year 1.
9 This new equipmenthas made a significant contribution to the improvement in the use ofICT within the School and in the children's increased capability. Theequipment in the Nursery has already been earmarked for upgradingusing Post-OFSTED action plan now wish to bring the rest of Year 1 and Reception, along withthe SEN support room, up to the same level of resourcing. This willentail the purchase of 3 new computers, ideally Acorn A7000s withCDROM drive, to maintain the continuity of hardware platformthroughout the ) The LEA has already installed network cabling throughout theschool. We now need a hub and Ethernet cards for all machines forthe network to become ) The advantage of having a network will be the efficient use ofresources. The issue of site licences will need to be addressed for themost frequently used software once the network is ) We wish to see all areas of the ICT curriculum covered as well as full integration of ICT into all other curriculum areas.

Scheme of work to be evaluated after the First year to reviewsuggested activities and expectations where appropriate.
