1 Award of the Joint Meritorious unit Award ( jmua ) to headquarters , united states Forces afghanistan The Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff has awarded the Joint Meritorious unit Award ( jmua ) for members of the Armed Forces who were assigned to headquarters , united states Forces afghanistan . The inclusive period of the jmua for headquarters , united states Forces afghanistan is from 2 Feb 11, to 30 Sep 12. Only those members of the Armed Forces, who were present at the me and directly par cipated in the service or achievement for 30 days or more, shall be authorized to wear the jmua Ribbon. Members must be permanently assigned or a ached by official orders to the Joint unit / ac vity receiving the jmua .

2 Local commanders may waive, on an individual basis, the 30 day minimum requirement for individuals ( reserve personnel on ac ve duty and temporary duty and /or temporary assigned duty personnel) who, in the opinion of the commander contributed directly to the achievement cited, and were assigned on official orders to the awarded unit during the approved me frames. Service units or individuals deployed in support of a Joint Task force (JTF), but not assigned and /or a ached to the JTF by official orders, are ineligible for the jmua , even if they are under the opera onal control of the JTF. The services may Award appropriate service unit awards to their units assigned and /or a ached to a JTF.

3 This Award is for the headquarters only. Service units and individuals assigned to service units in support of this organiza on are not eligible for this Award . To have your records updated, please bring any le ers of evalua ons, evalua ons or decora ons confirming the deployment loca on and place of duty to the awards and Decora ons Office in the Military Personnel Sec on (upstairs in building 436). 7 Announced in Feb FY13 force management programs support the Air force effort to reduce manning to the authorized end strength by 30 Sep 13. Officer programs, available for specific year groups and overage career fields, include me in grade waivers for eligible lieutenant colonels, limited ac ve duty service commitment waivers, Palace Chase transfers to the Air Na onal Guard or Air force Reserve, and the 10 to 8 Commissioned Years of Service Waiver program. Enlisted voluntary programs, for those who are not in cri cal special es, include limited ac ve duty service commitment and me in grade waivers, waivers to enlistment contracts, and Palace Chase transfers to the Air Na onal Guard or Air force Reserve.

8 Applica ons, due 1 Aug 13, must be submi ed via the virtual MPF. Those approved for re rement must re re by 1 Sep 13. Separa ons must be complete by 1 Sep 13. Airmen who separate or re re must a end the mandatory 5 day Transi on Assistance Program workshop. TAP helps Airmen prepare for post military life, offering instruc on and guidance on resume development, job hun ng and more. Dis nguished Warfare Medal On 13 Feb 13, The Secretary of Defense has authorized the Dis nguished Warfare Medal (DWM) for extraordinary achievement, not involving acts of valor, directly impac ng combat opera ons, or other military opera ons such as opera ons authorized by a Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff (CJCS) Execute Order (EXORD), as approved by the Secretary of Defense.

9 This is a personal/individual performance Award to recognize members of the united states Armed Forces who dis nguished themselves on or a er 11 Sep 01 by extraordinary achievement, not involving acts of valor, directly impac ng, through any domain, combat opera ons, or other military opera ons, including Title 10 united states Code ( ) support of non Title 10 opera ons, and opera ons authorized by an approved Execu on Order (EXORD), under any of the following circumstances: While engaged in military opera ons against an enemy of the united states ; or While engaged in military opera ons involving conflict against an opposing foreign force ; or While serving with friendly foreign forces engaged in military opera ons with an opposing armed force in which the united states in not a belligerent party.

10 The extraordinary achievement must have resulted in an accomplishment so excep onal and outstanding as to clearly set the individual apart from comrades or from other persons in similar situa ons. The DWM may not be awarded for valor in combat in any circumstances. Award will be made only to recognize single acts of extraordinary achieve ment and will not be made in recogni on of sustained opera onal ac vi es or service. The DWM may be awarded posthumously.
