2 PROPERTIES OF FLAME SAFE TREATED WOOD. Permanence Flam e Safe treated wood is a perm anent guard against the spread of fire. Strength Flam e Safe's aqueous based resin treatm ent and kiln-drying process strengthens the wood Hygroscopicity Flam e Safe treated wood is no m ore hygroscopic than untreated wood of any given species. Corrosion Flam e Safe treated wood does not dem onstrate any greater corrosion rate than untreated wood on m etal fasteners or hardware. Decorating and Finishing Flam e Safe treated wood surfaces can be stained or painted with ordinary preparation, however avoid using lacquer based stains or varnishes. Field Cuts Flam e Safe treated wood allows the user to re-surface, m ill, or rip lum ber or plywood provided the exposed surfaces are coated with Flam e Safe's fire retardant coating (Fire Poly). Versatility Flam e Safe treated wood is com patible with m ost waterborne preservative treatm ents for lum ber, plywood and tim ber for exterior and in ground use.

THE BEST FIRE INSURANCE IS PREVENTION. VACUUM- PRESSURE IMPREGNATION. Lum ber, plywood or tim ber is loaded into a treatm ent cylinder. The door is sealed and a vacuum is applied. During this stage, m ost of the m oisture and air is rem oved from the wood cells.

4 The vacuum in the cylinder causes the cylinder to fill with Flam e Safe's proprietary fire retardant. Pressure is raised in the cylinder forcing the fire retardant solution into the wood. The pressure and tim e varies depending on the species of the wood, the com m odity being treated, the cross- sectional area, and the am ount of the fire retardant solution to be im pregnated into the wood. The pressure in the cylinder forces the rem aining fire retardant solution to flow back into a holding tank. Another vacuum is applied, rem oving the excess fire retardant solution from the wood. The lum ber, plywood or tim ber is loaded onto tram s that service a gas fired forced air kiln. KILN-DRYING. Heated air is used to extract moisture from wood. A gas fired forced air convection system rem oves m ost of the m oisture from the wood after treatm ent.

5 The m oisture laden air is dehum idified. The drying rate is m onitored to prevent cracking in the lum ber. Lum ber is kiln dried to a m oisture content not to exceed 19%. Plywood is kiln dried to a m oisture content not to exceed 15%. Finished m oldings and trim is kiln dried to a m axim um m oisture content of 6 to 12% depending on the species and specific use. Pitch in the wood is crystallized perm itting interior and exterior finishes to be easily applied. W hen kiln dried, Flam e Safe treated wood becom es lighter and stronger, m axim izing it's structural uses. SPECIFICATIONS. All Flam e Safe's treated lum ber, plywood and tim ber shall be vacuum -pressure im pregnated to com ply with the ASTM E-84 standard (UL723 and the NFPA 255). and shall have a flam e spread rating of 25 or less. All Flam e Safe's licensed m anufacturers are m onitored with Fire Prevention Technologies' Follow-Up Service (FPT-FUS).

6 FPT-FUS requires com pliance to the ASTM E-84 standard or ASTM D-3806 equivalency for Class A Type 1. (Surface Burning Characteristics of Building Materials).
