2 WHEN: Friday, November 23 11:30am - 2:30pm (11:00 warm up) DAY AFTER THANKSGIVING! GUARANTEED TO WORK THOSE THANKSGIVING CALORIES OFF! MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT The fun has begun! Starting in October, life seems to speed up. As soon as Halloween is over our lives become both hectic and excit-ing as we prepare for Thanksgiving and Christmas. Therefore, we try to plan some fun parties for our members. Our first social of the season took place on Friday Oct. 26, with our annual costume and tennis fest hosted by Sharon Gehrke and her family. Lots of scary and funny costumes, lots of partying along with some great tennis. Check out photos in this issue! But don t worry if you missed it, there are two more special events for our families before the year is over. Next month on Black Friday (the day after Thanksgiving) we will hold our annual Turkey Tennis Day which is hosted by PJ Greenwald and Mike Donahue.

3 We usual-ly have about 50 members, but I would like to see that number in-crease to 75 this year. The day is filled with fun tennis, special chal-lenges on the courts, prizes and plenty of great food. Then comes our Christmas tournament in December (date TBD) which is organized by Ernie Blando. Unlike most Christmas parties, this is not a gift giving event, but you can be sure to receive a gift. There is always lots of challenging tennis and the opportunity to meet other members of the club. Who knows, this year we might find someone who would be willing to plan and host a special tennis activity to celebrate one of the many other holidays (Valentine, Easter, St Patrick etc.) in the year. 6 Captains will collect. The Captains Committee (the outgoing Fall captains), will meet early next month to rate players, ap-point new captains, and address player requests. After that, the new Winter captains will draft the winter teams. If you have an item you would like discussed at the next Captains Meeting, please let your Captain or one of the League/Level Coordinators know. Reminders: 1. Availability: Let us know if you are unsure of your availability (planned extended vacations, surgery, work restrictions, child care issues or other obligations) as this affects the team drafts. 2. Partnerships: Players signing up without a partner must be willing to play with whomever the Captain schedules her to play with. 3. Teams are fielded according to RPTC's Policy for Fielding Teams, located on the RPTC website.

Details about the league: Format is 2 lines of singles and 3 lines of doubles. Each team must field at least 8 players for each match. Minimum roster size is 8 players; maximum is 18 players. Play is on Sunday mornings. Singles at 9am, Doubles at 10:15am.

8 Divisions are , , + + means up to 3 players on the roster may be rated , but only 2 may compete in a team match, and only in line 1 singles or doubles. Example: one player at #1 Sgls and one player at #1 Dbls or two players a #1 Dbls. RPTC will field teams at the , , and + levels in the USTA league. [We will NOT be fielding men s teams in the North County Doubles League.] League play will start in early January 2019. Players must be at least 40 years old sometime in 2019. If you turn 40 no later than 12/31/19, you are eligible. Players must also be members of the USTA and members of RPTC. Note that the USTA re-calculates ratings in late November/early December. Now that some of you are not playing league, please come out and try Pickleball. It s so much fun and a great workout. Clinics will be held every Monday from 10-11:30 am for all mem-bers ($7) and non-members ($12). Use the link below to sign up. LobLetter November 2018 7 OCTOBER BOARD MEETING HIGHLIGHTS The board is looking into obtaining an ice machine as well as locating a water line to the upper patio for drinking water and/or ice.

10 The board approved the tax return that was prepared by Judy Anderson, CPA and volunteer. A member questioned the necessity to have membership cards checked every visit. The board tabled a discussion on moving money to a cd until Marty, the treasurer, is back from vacation. Why Do We Check Membership Cards? Article of the RPTC Board s Standing Rules states: Membership Cards: All active members are issued a membership card that must be visibly available for the monitor to inspect. If a member has forgot-ten their card, they must contact the monitor before taking their court. Why are Monitors required to check membership cards? To ensure that courts are booked according to RPTC Court Usage Policies To make sure the person(s) on the courts are members; and have paid a guest fee for non-member guests.
