Materials Yarn: 2 Caron Cakes (200 g each) OR 300 g worsted weight, acrylic (4 ply, size 4) self-striping yarn (Caron Cake colour in pictured Shawl is Rainbow Sherbet) Hook: mm / (I / 9) / UK 5 *If you crochet tightly, you will want to use a larger hook* Scissors, Yarn Needle Stitch Legend r row st(s) stitch(es) sp(s) space(s) ch(s) chain(s) sl st slip stitch sc single crochet hdc half double crochet dc double crochet Notes - The chain 6 that begins each new row counts as an anchoring double crochet and a chained space.
2 - The border pattern will work with any number of rows - A Shell is 3 dc worked together in the same space. - A Picot is (sc, ch 3, sc) worked into the same space. Pattern Ch 8, join with a sl st to the first ch to make a circle R1: ch 2, 8 hdc into the circle (8, ch-2 does not count). Ch 6 turn R2: skip a st, hdc into the next st, ch 8, skip 2 sts, hdc into the next st, ch 4, hdc into the last st (3 sps). Ch 6, turn. R3: (3 dc, ch 2) in the first sp, (3 dc, ch 5, 3 dc, ch 2) in the ch-8 sp, (3 dc, ch 2) in the last sp, dc in the 2nd ch of the ch-6 from previous row (4 shells, 5 sps, 2 anchoring dc).
3 Ch 6, turn R4: (3 dc, ch 2) in each ch-2 sp, (3 dc, ch 5, 3 dc, ch 2) in the ch-5 sp, (3 dc, ch 2) in each ch-2 sp, dc in the 3rd ch of the ch-6 from previous row (6 shells, 7 sps, 2 anchoring dc). Ch 6, turn Repeat R4 until Shawl is desired length. Each Row will increase by 2 extra shells and 2 extra sps. Shawl pictured was worked until R36 of Shawl pattern and measured 98 cm ( inches) from middle top to middle bottom point. 4 *(sc, ch 3, sc) into the next sp, sc into the next 3 sts*. Repeat from * to * up to ch-5 corner. (sc, ch 3, sc) 3 times into ch-5 sp. *Sc into the next 3 sts, (sc, ch 3, sc) into the next sp*. 5 If your Shawl has an even number of rows, your last sp will have a picot, if your Shawl has an odd number of rows, your last sp will have 2 sc. Sc into the edge of the hdc st, (2 sc, ch 3, 2 sc) into the middle circle, sc into the edge of the next hdc st. Work the Edge Part 2 pattern in reverse across the rest of your flat edge: If, into your last sp before the hdc st, you worked 2 sc, then begin with 2 sc, if your last sp before the hdc was a picot, begin with a picot. This reversal of the pattern will ensure that you end with 2 sc in the 2nd last sp, sc in the last intersection, and finish with (sc, ch 3, sc) 2 times into the corner sp, sl st to the first sc (this last sp will have a total of 3 picots in it).
