1 Application name : Current version: Required microstation Version: V8 XM Edition, or V8i Required GEOPAK Version: Not Applicable The Application is used to create microstation design Files according to the file naming and directory structure conventions defined in the ODOT CADD Engineering Standards Manual. The Application can be accessed from the microstation pull-down menu by selecting ODOT > File Management > New Design File. The Application can also be accessed with the following key-in command: vba load ; vba run When the Application is accessed, the dialog shown below is opened. Important! This program assumes that you are following the standard directory structure as defined in the ODOT CADD Engineering Standards Manual.

The file is opened in MicroStation and the following steps are preformed: o If the file is a basemap design file, the design model is activated. o If the file is a sheet design file, the sheet model is activated.

2 Use to create the project folders before running this program. The dialog has the following functions: Select Parent Folder The Application saves the last folder selected in the Windows Registry. If this is the first time the Application is being run, the dialog will display No Folder Selected as shown in the example above. Choose the Select Parent Folder command button to select the folder. As noted above, the Application is designed to work with a standard ODOT directory structure. The Application does not create any folders for the design Files . When you select the parent folder, the following assumptions are made: When creating design Files for Roadway design applications , it is assumed that the PID folder is selected.

3 Once the PID folder for the project is selected, the dialog will expand as shown on the following page. 2 In the example above, the folder c:\GPKC lass\DAR\12345 is selected. The Application displays the design Files that have been previously created in the sub-folders for the selected project folder depending on the Category selected. When a Structures sub-folder is selected, the dialog will appear as shown below. When a Wall sub folder is selected, the dialog will show options for creating wall Files . Select Seed File Use this command button to select the file to use as the Seed file for creating new design Files . 3 Category The options available in the Category menu will vary depending on the folder selected.

4 If the PID folder is selected, the options to create Roadway design Files are displayed: If a Structures sub-folder is selected, the options to create bridge Files are displayed: If a Wall sub-folder is selected, the option to create wall Files is displayed: 4 When a Category is selected, the list of Files that can be created is changed to reflect the current selection. Additionally, the program will show you a list of previously created Files for the selected Category. In the example below, two design Files have been previously created for the Right-of-Way category. The left portion of the dialog lists the available Right-of-Way sheet design Files that can be created. The File name heading gives a list of the folder where the right-of-way Files reside and the name if the file if a file exists in the folder.

5 Note: The Project Directory is pre-pended to the path shown under the File name heading to establish the full path for the file. The Files in the example above are contained in the following folder: c:\GPKclass\DAR\12345\row\sheets To create a new design file, select the Category and then toggle on the check box next to the file you wish to create. The name of the new file will be shown in red under the File name heading. If a file of the type that you select already exists, the file name will be incremented. In the example above, the Centerline of Survey Plat sheet design file named already exists in the selected project \row\sheets folder. A new file named will be created. The All On option is used to toggle on all of the sheets in the selected Category.

6 5 Comments Each design file can have a comment stored with the file. Comments can be keyed-in individually for each file or the Default Comment field can be used to globally assign a comment to every design file as shown below. The comments can be viewed in Windows Explorer or the microstation Manager. See the ODOT CADD Engineering Standards Manual for more details on the use of comments and how to configure Windows Explorer and the microstation Manager to display the comment field. Scale The Scale option is used for two purposes. The Scale is used to set the microstation Annotation Scale for the design file. If the selected design file has an option to place a cell, the Scale is used to determine the size of the cell placed in the design file.

7 The Default Scale option is used to globally set the Scale value for every design file to be created. Note that the sheets placed in some design Files are intended to always be placed at a scale value of 1. In this case, the Scale value is hard coded and cannot be changed by the user. Place Cell Many sheet types allow the placement of a cell in the design file. If you wish to place a cell, select the cell name from the list. The list of available cells is based on the sheet type selected. Basemap design Files do not provide the option to place a cell. 6 Crete Files Select the Create Files button to initiate the process. Depending on how many Files are being created it could take a few minutes to process all the Files .

8 Several things are happening behind the scenes when each file is created: The selected seed file is copied to the project folder and renamed according to the file type being created. The file is opened in microstation and the following steps are preformed: o If the file is a basemap design file, the design model is activated. o If the file is a sheet design file, the sheet model is activated. o The Comments are written to the file. o The microstation Annotation scale is set according to the Scale factor. o If a cell is to be placed, the cell libraries are searched for a matching cell name which is placed in the sheet model at the desired scale. o A microstation Save Settings command is executed. The file is closed and the process is repeated for each design file to be created.
