Find these passages and notice how they juxtapose his human attributes and physical condition. He does not mean to scare his mother. He tries to get out of the way. He understands all that they say. They behave as if he is no longer human, when in fact he is. His feelings are hurt. 3. Closure: In a concluding class discussion, encourage students to consider the bigger picture here. Why is Gregor so human while his family acts in such an inhuman fashion? Differentiation Advanced Encourage students to create a digital slide presentation or a movie that shows the juxtaposition of Gregor's physical Metamorphosis and human characteristics.

During the Lesson , allow students to collaborate on a shared online document, explaining connections to other literature read or discussed. For the assessment below, students will write two paragraphs. Their challenge is to develop a single topic in two related paragraphs. Struggling During the Lead-In activities, students are given the opportunity to catch up with their annotations. An extensive selection of notes will assure their productive participation in step b. Step c calls again for close reading; students will benefit from being grouped with more advanced readers.
