1 1. Wood Wyant has two green product lines: BIO and ECO. What s the difference? Our BIO products are derived from biotechnology and contain molecules that are naturally produced by certain species of microorganisms or biosurfactants. These products are recognized for their cleaning efficiency and ability to digest organic and petroleum-based substances that otherwise contaminate our sewers and rivers. This biotechnology may be in the form of microbes or biosurfactants. Our ECO products are ECOLOGO certified, scientifically tested and subject to the eligibility criteria established by UL, North America s most respected and well-known environmental standard. Biotechnology-based cleaning products not only clean and deodorize on contact, they also continue to work long afterwards on treated porous surfaces like tile grout and carpets as well as in the drains where they have been used or emptied.
2 This dual action is achieved through the proliferation of the microorganisms contained in our VERT-2-GO BIO products that digest organic matter. These microorganisms reproduce at a rate of 1 billion microorganisms every 10 hours, and will continue to digest organic matter until there is no longer any source of food or moisture. The regular cleaner immediately dissolves surface stains and dirt, while the VERT-2-GO BIO products provide a deep, long-lasting residual cleaning effect. 3. What is a microorganism? The human body contains thousands of different species of microorganisms, which it needs to function properly. Without microbes, life would not exist! Microorganisms produce enzymes and biosurfactants, which they use to move around and to retrieve food made of various types of dirt. Microorganisms never stop! They work 24/7, degrading the specific type of organic matter they are designed to digest (this depends on their DNA).
3 4. What is a biosurfactant? A biosurfactant is a biomolecule that s naturally produced by certain species of microorganisms. Because they come from renewable natural sources, biosurfactants are 100% natural and biodegradable. 5. What is an enzyme? An enzyme is a protein molecule that catalyzes a chemical reaction. Enzymes break down the long chain-like molecules of proteins into shorter fragments and eventually into their components, amino acids. Enzymes are found in bacteria, plants and, more abundantly, in animals. 6. How do microbial-based products work? These products initiate a cycle that continuously repeats itself as long as there is organic matter, oxygen and moisture. VERT-2-GO BIO products go to work immediately and keep on working to provide round-the-clock cleaning. For continuous results, however, these products must be applied on a regular basis.
4 1. Upon application of the VERT-2-GO BIO product , the microbes shift into action. 2. Wherever their receptors sense organic matter, the microbes express (release) enzymes. 3. These enzymes then attack the organic matter, breaking up into smaller pieces. 4. The enzymes then return these smaller pieces to the microbes for digestion. Microorganisms will continue to reproduce as long as there is moisture and organic matter (a source of food); otherwise they will stop working. Microorganisms reproduce at a rate of 1 billion microorganisms every 10 hours. Note that contact with bleach, chlorine, quats or excessive heat will kill microorganisms. 5. The cycle then repeats itself. 7. Are microbe-based products safe? YES! VERT-2-GO BIO products are safe for users, surfaces and the environment. Our VERT-2-GO BIO products contain naturally occurring, non-pathogenic microorganisms and are completely free of petroleum distillates, nonyl phenol ethoxylate (NPE) and other harsh chemicals.
5 All have a neutral pH and no added dyes or perfumes. They have little or no added perfumes, which reduces the risk of allergies. The microorganism contained in these products replace aggressive and toxic surfactants and acids. These microorganisms produce enzymes to digest the selected organic matter. These enzymes are non-toxic, non-irritating and non-flammable. Nor do they emit any gases. 8. How will VERT-2-GO BIO products react if stored in temperatures below 5oC (41oF) or above 60oC (140o F)? Storing VERT-2-GO BIO products in extremely hot or cold weather is not recommended. Although the spores in the liquids can withstand freezing, the chemical formulation may separate. In such instances, the containers will need to be shaken prior to use. Certain strains of microorganisms will die in temperatures above 60oC (140oF), although the strains in our carpet cleaner can withstand temperatures of 121oC (250oF) for a short period of time.
6 9. How long will the microbes last after they have been diluted in water? The first thing to determine is whether or not the product has been diluted at the correct ratio. If the VERT-2-GO BIO product is kept in either a spray bottle or bucket without being used, the microbes will remain active without a food source for approximately 1 week, depending on the quality and temperature of the water. After this point, a new solution will need to be made. 10. When do the microbes start working, and how long will they keep on working? Microorganisms begin working upon contact with organic matter. They will keep working as long as there is organic matter (food source) and moisture. 11. What types of organic matter do these microorganisms digest? Fats, oils, grease, blood, urine and feces. Please note that each VERT-2-GO BIO product targets specific types of organic matter.
7 12. How often should these products be used? It depends on the type of dirt you are trying to clean. The key is to start with a daily cleaning schedule, which may later be changed to a preventative cleaning program. See our technical data sheets for specific use directions. 13. Will VERT-2-GO BIO products damage paint or varnish? No. VERT-2-GO BIO products will not damage painted or varnished surfaces. Their low pH formulas contain no petroleum distillates and are safe on all water-washable surfaces. Also keep in mind that the microbes in these products have been carefully selected to remove specific types of organic matter, not paint or varnish. 14. What will happen if water splashes under equipment while cleaning a surface with a VERT-2-GO BIO product ? VERT-2-GO BIO products will work wherever there is moisture and organic matter. If either is found under equipment, the microbes will find their way to those areas, express enzymes, break up the organic matter and then digest it.
8 15. Can VERT-2-GO BIO products be used with a disinfectant? Yes, provided they are used in the right order. In bathrooms, for example, we recommend that you first clean with VERT-2-GO BIO Washroom Cleaner and Deodorizer and then treat points of contact with a disinfectant. 16. Can VERT-2-GO BIO products be used on food contact surfaces? Yes. Our VERT-2-GO BIO Floor Degreaser has CFIA approval on food surfaces. 17. Can VERT-2-GO BIO products be used in hospitals? Yes. Certain VERT-2-GO BIO products can be used in hospitals depending on the application. Please note that VERT-2-GO BIO products are not disinfectants.
