This position increases space at the back of the throat where food and drink can wait before you swallow . This reduces the risk of it going down the wrong way before you are ready to swallow . It moves the back of the tongue closer to the back of your throat. This helps push the food and drink down. This position narrows the entrance to your airway. This reduces the risk of food and drink going down the wrong way .Together these factors will increase the safety of your swallow and reduce your risk of developing chest Take a small mouthful2. Whilst holding the food/drink in your mouth, tuck your chin as close to your chest as possible3. swallow the food/drink keeping your chin tucked to your chest4.
