In the time since, Aboriginal people have led public protests, brought about positive political action, set up a tent on the front lawn of Parliament, and caused positive law reform.

Some Indigenous people voted in the first Commonwealth election in 1901. However, very few Indigenous people at the time were aware of their right to vote.
