microscopy called the quantitative buffy coat method (QBCTM, Becton-Dickinson). Originally developed to screen large numbers of specimens for complete blood cell counts, this method has been adapted for malaria diagnosis (12). The technique uses microhaematocrit tubes precoated with fluo-rescent acridine orange stain to highlight malaria parasites.
