extension.msstate.eduCommon Solution Fertilizers Urea-ammonium nitrate solutions (UAN) are urea and ammonium nitrate dissolved in water. Because of the urea content, to avoid volatilization losses of nitrogen (N) to the atmosphere, you must follow the same constraints in managing UAN as you do for dry urea. Avoid surface applications in hot, dry weather.

Nitrogen: All Forms Are Not Equal
greenhouse.cornell.eduBacteria can convert urea to ammonium or ammonium to nitrate. Hydrogen ions (H+) which acidify the medium are released when ammonium is converted to nitrate. In growing medium urea is converted to ammonium very quickly in less than two days. Urea and ammonium are typically grouped together and referred to as

After 1 to 2 minutes, measure nitrate by comparing color of wetted test strips to color picture scale on container test strips were stored (Figure 4). The color that most closely matches test strip is the amount of nitrate in water saturated soil. 6.

www.css.cornell.eduthe urea nitrogen was lost from the system, presumably by leaching below 30 cm soil depth, but most of the nitrogen released from biomass was retained in the topsoil (Fig. 7.1). Lehmann et al.(1999c) found that sorghum (Sorghum bicolor) took up more nitrogen from labelled ammonium sulphate than from Acacia salignaleaves in a runoff
