Dona Teodora Alonzo Rizal was born in Meisik, Tondo, Manila on November 9,1826. In 1848,she was married to Francisco Mercado. They had several children; and among them was Dr. Jose Rizal. When her son Jose began to advocate reforms in the Island, the Spanish government made her suffer. She stayed in prison for two years, although she was innocent.
