Think of an EVENT you'd like to enjoy in the fall and then contact our Events Director Christine to select a date for you to host it. Thanks to Christine and a myriad of wonderful volunteer hosts, the UKC is ticking over like clockwork. It is wonderful when you volunteer especially to host a new UNIQUE EVENT . Why not give one a try? There is a list of suggested events at the end of this message. PLEASE contact CHRISTINE, our Events Director, at or 416-256-5851, to discuss and select the best date for your EVENT . FREE-ENTRY COUPONS: Hosts receive one free-entry coupon for each EVENT they host for use at another UKC EVENT .
2 In addition, they do not pay the $5 levy for their own events; on the attendance form they send to Philip, our treasurer, with the levies collected they mark Host beside their name. KUDOS TO GARY for warmly welcoming UKC members on Saturday to his home and warm swimming pool. He was a gracious host who worked very hard to make it a fun day for us and succeeded. THANKS GARY! HEARTY CONGRATULATIONS: At Gary's pool party, long-time UKC members Shirin and Rob revealed that they were tying the knot on Friday. May their married years ahead be filled with lasting joy and love! It was a pleasure to have them as UKC members. Rob twice hosted parties at his house for us including a Lobsterfest! Sun DINNER/MINGLING - SQUIRE PUB RESTAURANT, Bloor/Islington - courtesy of CHRIS. There is a $5 levy per person per EVENT to be paid on arrival YOUR GUESTS and FIRST-TIMERS INCLUDED. (Please have a $5 banknote ready if possible.). When reserving for UKC events, please give your first and LAST NAME & HOME PHONE NUMBER. The latter is important, even if you reserve by email, in case there is a last minute change. Aug 16 Thu 2 pm, IDYLLIC AFTERNOON ON TORONTO ISLAND. Ann is going to spend the afternoon on Toronto Island before the concert, mentioned below, and would love to have company to stroll and sup before the concert.

Aug 16 Thu 6 pm, August MUSIC ON THE WATERFRONT, Toronto Music Garden There is no more perfect way to spend a hot summer evening than listening to music on the waterfront in the beautiful Toronto Music Garden. We will meet any time from 6pm (look for the UKC sign) and bring a picnic, (fingerfood to share if you wish) and socialize until the music starts at 7pm and lasts approx. one hour. Admission is free but they appreciate a donation. The UKC levy will apply. The concert is Rebekah Wolkstein and Drew Jurecka performing classical and traditional music on violin, mandolin and the 9-string hardanger fiddle. Afterwards we will stroll along the harbourfront and join in the very lively music and dancing.

Aug 18 Sat 3:30 pm, BAND SWING/JAZZ AND DANCING ALLEYCATZ, Yonge/Eglinton Join Marilyn at the Alleycatz, 2409 Yonge, blocks north of Eglinton. The York Jazz Ensemble is one of Toronto's top nine-piece bands with a terrific horn section and singer. The music is mostly jazz, blues, rock, ballads and big band standards. In addition to the usual $5 levy, there's a cover charge of $10. Alleycatz has a good sized dance floor so just listen to the music or ask someone to get up and dance. They are well known for the good food and extensive menu. Underground parking is available half a block south on Broadway. Please reserve ahead of time as we have to book a table. 6 Aug 19 Sun 6 pm, DINNER/MINGLING - SQUIRE PUB RESTAURANT, Bloor/Islington Join Chris for mingling and drinks, followed by dinner. Enjoy a beer, wine or cocktail and complimentary snack platters provided by the pub before we sit down to dinner about 7:15. pm. This is a great EVENT for new members so please invite your single friends, but remind them of the $5 UKC levy. Location: 3335 Bloor St W, just 2 blocks east of Islington subway station. Street parking available, as well as free street parking one block south on Lothian Ave, the street beside the pub. Reservations are not needed, please just drop in. Aug 23 Thu 6:30 pm, MID-WEEK FUN AT THE BEDFORD ACADEMY, Bloor/Bedford Join Bruce for mingling and dinner in a reserved private cozy bar, with elevator access and washrooms on the same floor, at the Bedford Academy Pub, 36 Prince Arthur.
7 Food choices are excellent, with a wide range of wines, domestic and imported beer at this interesting establishment. To reserve, please contact Bruce at (preferred) or 416- 594-1293. Aug 26 Sun 12 pm, GOLFING FUN DAY, 1000 Jane St. Join Dorothy and Joan at Scarlett Woods (Jane/Eglinton) Executive Golf Course for 18 holes of golf. You don't have to be an expert. All welcome! Bring your single friends! If needed, we will be playing BEST DRIVE', meaning that for the drive only, on holes greater than 150 yards, players who are beginners, pick up their balls and place them in line with the ball of the player who has the best drive. There will be prizes for CLOSEST TO THE HOLE' and LONGEST DRIVE' at designated holes. There is a maximum of one prize per golfer.
8 Our tee off times will begin just after 12 noon, so please arrive to the golf course before 11:45. Cost: green fees of $ for seniors and $ for adults, plus $5 UKC levy. Rentals available: clubs $20, pull cart $7 and power carts $30 for seniors, $32 for adults. Power carts can be shared. (All prices subject to change.) IMPORTANT: You definitely need to reserve your spot by 6 pm on the Thu before. Email JOAN or call DOROTHY at 416-245-4345. Aug 26 Sun 5:15 pm, DINNER AT THE WILD GOOSE, border of Mississauga/Etobicoke Everyone is welcome and since NO reservations are needed, just show up; UKC levy of $5 will apply. (No need to pay levy if you attended earlier EVENT .) This will be the '19th hole' for many of the afternoon golfers, with no levy payable.
9 The WILD GOOSE Bar & Grill is located at 5395 Eglinton Ave. W, just west of Renforth Drive. From Scarlett Woods golf course, go west on Eglinton and about 7 minutes later, just after passing the lights at Renforth, you will see the restaurant in the plaza on the south (left side). Hopefully it will be a lovely sunny day, so we can enjoy dinner on the large patio. Any questions or concerns, don't hesitate to contact JOAN or DOROTHY at 416-245-4345. Aug 30 Thu 7 pm, JAPANESE DINNER, Danforth/Carlaw Join Tony at the Katsu Sushi Japanese Restaurant, 572 Danforth Ave at Carlaw (near Pape subway station). It has a wide menu of Japanese specialties including sushi, sashimi, teriyaki and tempura dishes. Vegetarian options and an all-you-can-eat buffet-by-order are also available.

Sep 2 Sun 6:30 pm, 15/15 DINNER/MINGLING, ELEPHANT & CASTLE, King/Simcoe Join Christine at the ELEPHANT & CASTLE, 212 King St W. Free snack platters provided, plus 15% off the menu prices if 15 or more attend. We meet and mingle near the back in a reserved area before sitting down for excellent pub food like Shepherd's Pie, Fish & Chips, etc. Entr es: $9 - $16. Located directly across from Roy Thomson Hall - just steps from St. Andrew subway. For GO train users it is a relaxing 10 minute walk from Union Station and parking is free at GO stations.
