A Promise Matthew 1: 21 And she will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name JESUS, for He will save His people from their sins. 4 The Jesus Who Laid Down by Eddie Lawrence 1.

He Laid Down in a Manger This story tells us He came as a man and grew up as a man from infancy. Luke 2:16 And they came with haste and found Mary and Joseph, and the Babe lying in a manger. - He was fully human, a babe. - He attracted angels, wise men, and a star. 2. He Laid Down in a Boat This story shows us his authority as Lord who could control wind and wave. Mark 4: 35 On the same day, when evening had come, He said to them, Let us cross over to the other side. 36 Now when they had left the multitude, they took Him along in the boat as He was. And other little boats were also with Him. 37 And a great windstorm arose, and the waves beat into the boat, so that it was already filling. 38 But He was in the stern, asleep on a pillow. And they awoke Him and said to Him, Teacher, do You not care that we are perishing?

39 Then He arose and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, Peace, be still! And the wind ceased and there was a great calm. 40 But He said to them, Why are you so fearful? How is it that you have no faith? 41 And 5 they feared exceedingly, and said to one another, Who can this be, that even the wind and the sea obey Him! - He was fully human, he tired. - He moved in authority to calm the sea. 3. He Laid Down in a Garden This story shows us his place as mediator and intercessor and his willful obedience to the Divine purpose. Matthew 26: 36 Then Jesus came with them to a place called Gethsemane, and said to the disciples, Sit here while I go and pray over there. 37 And He took with Him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, and He began to be sorrowful and deeply distressed. 38 Then He said to them, My soul is exceedingly sorrowful, even to death.

Stay here and watch with Me. 39 He went a little farther and fell on His face, and prayed, saying, O My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from Me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as You will. 40 Then He came to the disciples and found them sleeping, and said to Peter, What! Could you not watch with Me one hour? 41 Watch and pray, lest you enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak. - He was fully human, he agonized. - He moved in intercession. 6 4. He Laid Down in a Tomb This story shows us the finality of his death as our sin bearer who bore the ultimate penalty of sin which death with all its separating powers. John 19: 40 Then they took the body of Jesus, and bound it in strips of linen with the spices, as the custom of the Jews is to bury. 41 Now in the place where He was crucified there was a garden, and in the garden a new tomb in which no one had yet been laid.

42 So there they laid Jesus, because of the Jews Preparation Day, for the tomb was nearby. -His burial signifies his death. His death is an important and necessary element of the Gospel. - He was fully human, he died. - He bore the sins of the world. -This last lying down preceded the great raising up. The resurrection of Jesus. 7 The Greatest Gift Giver by Eddie Lawrence Reflect with me about some of the wonderful gifts that Father God has freely given us as His children: 1. The Gift of His Son John 3: 16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. 2. The Gift of Eternal Life Romans 6: 23 For the wages of sinis death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. 3. The Gift of Saving Grace Ephesians 2: 8 For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, 9 not of works, lest anyone should boast.

4. The Gift of the Holy Spirit Acts 2: 38 Then Peter said to them, Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 39 For the promise is to you and to your children, and to all who are afar off, as many as the Lord our God will call. 5. The Gifts of the Holy Spirit 1 Corinthians 12:1 Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I do not want you to be ignorant: 2 You know that you were Gentiles, carried away to these dumb idols, however you were led. 3 Therefore I make 8 known to you that no one speaking by the Spirit of God calls Jesus accursed, and no one can say that Jesus is Lord except by the Holy Spirit. 4 There are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. 5 There are differences of ministries, but the same Lord.

6 And there are diversities of activities, but it is the same God who works all in all. 7 But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to each one for the profit of all: 8 for to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, to another the word of knowledge through the same Spirit, 9 to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healings by the same Spirit, 10 to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another discerning of spirits, to another different kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues. 11 But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually as He wills. 9 Wise Ways of Wise Men by Eddie Lawrence The group of wise men we read about that visited Jesus when he was a child give should aspire us to have a hunger to worship Jesus as they did.

Let s learn from their ways. First let s read the Scripture narrative. Text: Matthew 2: Now after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, behold, wise men from the East came to Jerusalem, 2 saying, Where is He who has been born King of the Jews? For we have seen His star in the East and have come to worship Him. 3 When Herod the king heard this, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him. 4 And when he had gathered all the chief priests and scribes of the people together, he inquired of them where the Christ was to be born. 5 So they said to him, In Bethlehem of Judea, for thus it is written by the prophet: 6 But you, Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, Are not the least among the rulers of Judah; For out of you shall come a Ruler Who will shepherd My people Israel. 7 Then Herod, when he had secretly called the wise men, determined from them what time the star appeared.

8 And he sent them to Bethlehem and said, Go and search carefully for the young Child, and when you have found Him, bring back word to me, that I may come and worship Him also. 9 When they heard the king, they departed; and behold, the star which they had seen in the East went before them, till it came and stood over where the young Child was. 10 When they saw the star, they rejoiced 10 with exceedingly great joy. 11 And when they had come into the house, they saw the young Child with Mary His mother, and fell down and worshiped Him. And when they had opened their treasures, they presented gifts to Him: gold, frankincense, and myrrh. 12 Then, being divinely warned in a dream that they should not return to Herod, they departed for their own country another way. 1. They Were Seekers Matthew 2: Now after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, behold, wise men from the East came to Jerusalem, 2 saying, Where is He who has been born King of the Jews?
